REESE, PATRICIA A.

Patricia A. Reese, 79, of Jacksonville Beach, died May 27, 2016 at Baptist Medical Center. She was born March 8, 1937 in Tupelo Mississippi to Margaret Stone Reese and Andrew Jackson “Andy” Reese, Sr. 
She was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women. She earned her Master’s Degree from Florida State University. She served with the Red Cross in Korea and later worked with the Red Cross and the YWCA in Asheville, North Carolina. She came to Jacksonville in 1965 to work with the Duval County School System. She first taught and coached at Southside Junior High and then taught physical education and coached girls’ basketball at Fletcher High School, Jacksonville Beach. Her girls won the first Florida State Girls’ Basketball Championship in 1976. She retired from the Duval County School System in 1998, becoming a volunteer with K9s For Warriors.
She was preceded in death by her good friend, Joe “Click” Scarborough and her brother Andrew Jackson “Andy” Reese Jr. Survivors include her special friend, Lucy P. Stewart; sister-in-law Dottie Reese; niece Linda Reese Lightsey; nephews Andy and Dennis Reese; great-nephew and great-nieces; a host of friends and Beautiful Joe, Bootsie and Kit Kat Reese. She enjoyed her visits to her cabin near Stecoah, North Carolina and her annual climbs up Mt. LeConte. She had a passion for animals, always stopping to help a turtle across the road.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016 in Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home with a Memorial Service following in the Chapel at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Wink Cherry officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Tupelo, Mississippi.
