    JOHNSON, CHARLES ROBERT (BOB)

Atlantic Beach resident Charles Robert (Bob) Johnson went home to be with his Lord on April 4, 2016 at the age of 90. He died in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.
Bob was born in Albany, Georgia on January 7, 1926 to Mary Edna Chapman Johnson and William Robert Johnson. At the age of three, his parents moved to Ocala, Florida. After graduating from Ocala High School, where he was voted “most likable”, he attended the University of Florida where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and a staff writer for the University newspaper, “The Alligator”.
Bob received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1948, and then an MBA from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. His business career consisted of forty years with Hooper Holmes as a regional manager. Following his retirement, he went into business for himself.
Bob was truly a family man. He married Beverly Ann Dasher in 1967. In 1974, the Johnsons moved to Neptune Beach, FL, where they lived for 33 years before eventually moving to Atlantic Beach, FL in 2007. While living in Neptune Beach, Bob was a little league coach at the Atlantic Beach Athletic Association for several years before eventually becoming President of the league. He was also a member of the Neptune Beach City Council for several years.
The Johnsons loved to travel the world, and toured all of the continental United States in their motor home, accompanied by their dog, Casey. Later, they took 20 cruises traveling to China, Japan, and numerous European countries. Although the Johnsons always had the "travel bug", their favorite place to go was their lake house in Oklawaha, FL. There they enjoyed family, swimming, boating, and all things lake related.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, his siblings William Ward Johnson, Thomas Chapman Johnson, Mary Annette Johnson and Jane Elizabeth Johnson Merrill, and his nephews George Marshall Johnson and John Edward Merrill Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife Beverly, his son Thomas Ward Johnson (Angela), and two grandsons Cole Robert Johnson and Mason Thomas Johnson. He is also survived by his nephews William Ward Johnson (Jeannie), James Thomas Johnson (Susan), Charles Raymond Merrill, Thomas Lee Merrill (Nora), his niece Karen Johnson Scally (Bill), and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on April 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at Community Presbyterian Church (150 Sherry Drive, Atlantic Beach FL), where Bob was a faithful member. The Reverend Peyton Hopkins will preside. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Community Presbyterian Church or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
