Dorothy S. Hayward, 87, of Jacksonville Beach, FL passed away peacefully on July 23, 2017. She was born January 16, 1930 in Gainesville, FL to Earl and Dorothy Simpson and was preceded in death by her husband Ronald E. Hayward, Sr., who was her high school sweetheart at Gainesville High School. They were married November 27, 1949 and raised their family in Gainesville, Ocala and Jacksonville Beach. Her children Elizabeth Hayward Phelps and Ronald E. Hayward, Jr., remember her as a kind and sweet-tempered mother and wife with eyes full of love and compassion. She was passionate about her role as a homemaker, cultivating beauty and harmony for her family who, in return, always knew how deeply they were loved. Her children found joy in showing her how much they appreciated having a sweet mama who sacrificed so much for them. Her sense of humor and adventure was evident to all her knew her. Her favorite pastime was walking on the beach collecting sea shells and sharks teeth with her family. She is also survived by her sister Martha Strickland of Jacksonville and sister-in-law Dorothy LaVergne of Charlotte, NC, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In the last year of her life, she converted to Catholicism and was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Jax Beach where a funeral mass will held for her at 12:00 Noon on Thursday August 10th.
