Johnny Bass passed away peacefully at home after a prolonged illness Sunday, January 31, 2016. Johnny was born near the sandy shores of Jacksonville Beach on September 11, 1942 to Olethia and James Bass, Sr. As he grew up in the area often referred to as “The Hill,” he embraced his education as a means of excelling. He graduated from Douglas Anderson High School in 1961. Johnny married Mable Lee Davis on June 23, 1963. 
He worked for Winn-Dixie a number of years, then transitioned to working for the State of Florida as a Food Inspector.  This position would entail his life’s work as he continued with them for 25 years. Johnny became very knowledgeable about and involved with the community and politics not only in Jacksonville Beach but the city at large. 
He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Mable; his son, Dirk (Jennifer) and daughter, Dana; grandchildren, Jade, Jamal, Reagan, John Cayden, Payton and Gracyn; his sister, Mary Ann Copeland; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. 
Viewing and Wake to be held Friday, February 5, 2016, 5:00-8:00 p.m., James Graham Mortuary, 3361 Moncrief Rd., Jacksonville. Graveside Memorial Service to be held Saturday, February 6, 2016, 11:00 a.m., Beaches Memorial Gardens, Atlantic Beach, FL.
